- CAMWorks provides an Interactive Turn Feature wizard for defining features that need to be defined for your facility’s machining requirements, such as custom OD and ID grooves
CAMWorks Mill-Turn (Live-C) Machining
- Multi-Tasking Synchronization: Synchronizes simultaneous operations across multiple turrets and spindles. It allows you to machine both sides of a part simultaneously or run independent parts in the main and sub-spindles. [1]
- Advanced Axis Support: Provides comprehensive toolpath generation for C, Y, and B-axis machining at compound angles, up to full 5-axis simultaneous milling and turning.
- Continuous B-Axis Turning: Enables tools to dynamically tilt during the cut to reach complex undercuts using a single finishing tool, optimizing cycle times and insert wear. [, 2, 3]
- Automatic Feature Recognition (AFR): Analyzes solid geometry to instantly separate turned features (like outer diameters and grooves) from live-tool milling features (such as wrapped cylindrical pockets and flats). [1, 2]
- Machine Aware Programming: Generates a true digital twin of your mill-turn machinery. This includes custom chucks, jaws, housing, and collets to simulate operations and visually check for fixtures avoidance and tool collisions. [1]
- High-Efficiency Toolpaths: Fully integrates Sandvik Coromant PrimeTurning™ for multi-directional high-speed turning, as well as VoluTurn for smooth, continuous-motion roughing that extends insert life
Wire EDM Solutions
- Searches the part for machinable features

Advanced Nesting Solutions
Core Features:
- True Shape Nesting: Orients parts based on their exact geometry rather than treating them like rigid rectangular boxes, heavily reducing raw material waste.
- Part-in-Part Nesting: Fits smaller components inside the internal open cavities or cutouts of larger components on the same sheet.
- Full SOLIDWORKS Associativity: Links directly to your 3D design. If you modify a component's dimensions, the nested layout flags the change and updates automatically.
- Automatic Sheet Thickness Sorting: Analyzes complete assemblies containing mixed part thicknesses, automatically segregating and grouping parts to match corresponding raw material stocks.
- Grain Direction Controls: Manages directional material patterns (like wood grain or directional steel properties) by locking or favoring specific part rotation angles.
- Automatic Unfolding: Flattens folded sheet metal parts on the fly when creating a nesting job.
Verification & Simulation Solutions
Core Simulation Types:
- Standard Toolpath Simulation: Generates a standard 3D visual preview of tool paths and cutter locations (CL data). It allows programmers to check stock removal, cross-section profiles, and part deviations before posting code.
- CAMWorks Virtual Machine: Executes true G-code simulation utilizing the exact NC code sent to the physical controller. It tests subprograms, macros, and post-processor output instead of raw CAM data.
- Machine Awareness: Integrates full cinematic machine environment tracking. This visualizes the entire setup including loaded turrets, spindles, air-blast nozzles, and fixtures to catch complex machine-to-component crashes.
High-Performance Machining Solutions
CAMWorks VoluMill is an ultra-high-performance, high-speed rough milling toolpath engine. It integrates directly within CAMWorks to optimize cutting conditions, reducing machining cycle times by up to 80% and extending cutting tool life by up to 500%
Key Capabilities & Mechanics
- Constant Material Removal Rate (MRR): Unlike traditional roughing routines that use constant feed rates and risk tool breakage, VoluMill uses complex algorithms to dynamically adjust the feed rate. This maintains a uniform chip load and consistent tool engagement.
- Smooth, Tangent Toolpaths: It eliminates sharp directional changes and full-width slotting passes. By entering material smoothly from the side, utilizing a spiral ramp, or using pre-drilled holes, it minimizes spindle and machine stress.
- Full-Flute Cutting: It leverages the entire length of the cutting tool rather than just the tip. This disperses heat evenly and prevents premature, localized tool wear.
- Material Versatility: It operates with extreme efficiency in soft metals as well as challenging, hard-to-chip materials like Titanium, Stainless Steel, and Nickel-based alloys.
Tolerance-Based Machining Solutions
Tolerance-Based Machining (TBM) in HCL CAMWorks software reads and identifies tolerance data in 3D models, providing manufacturing companies the ability to automate toolpath generation and move toward paperless machining.
Moving to paperless machining can be difficult because CAD/CAM models rarely include all the information that machinists need. However, with the advent of Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) – such as dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T information – and Model Based Design (MBD), all the necessary manufacturing information can now be added directly to the 3D solid model. Tolerance Based Machining recognizes and uses this data, eliminating the cost of manual tasks involved when using 2D drawings.
Key Capabilities
- Automatic Strategy Selection: Reads MBD, DimXpert dimensions, and geometric tolerances to choose appropriate tooling sequences. For instance, a standard hole might trigger a simple drill operation, while a tight-tolerance hole automatically switches to a boring or reaming strategy.
- Machine to Mean: Automatically recalculates and programs toolpaths to the middle (mean) of asymmetric tolerances (e.g., +0.000 / -0.005). This ensures parts pass quality assurance inspections without requiring manual CAD geometry remodeling.]
- Surface Finish Integration: Identifies surface roughness annotations (like RMS ranges) on 3-axis surfaces. It then automatically adjusts stepovers and speeds to achieve the exact finish specified.
- Technology Database (TechDB) Link: Maps user-defined tolerance windows to specific, company-approved machining cycles.
